Faith, Healing

Physical healing is included in the atonement: Not a scholar or a liar | 1 Peter 2:24 | John 5:1-15

A study of the Word and the Greek roots of 1 Peter 2:24 make it plain as the noonday sun that Jesus’ body was broken and striped to pay for PHYSICAL healing not just to atone for sin so we may be saved.

I heard a pastor once make this distinction…

Salvation is a resurrection.

Physical healing is restoration.

The Greek roots in 1 Peter 2:24 speak of restoration, repair of what was broken.

I wish I could remember the name of this author, but he said something like…

Any Bible scholar who says 1 Peter 2:24 doesn’t include physical healing is either not a scholar or is a liar.

First, I just love straight shooters like this, and second this author is 100% correct.

Who is your pastor discipling its people to be like? Jesus or the Pharisees?

Jesus loves people, gave His body and shed His blood for them. He wants people well, captives free, for people to be loosed from the devil’s oppression (Isaiah 53; Isaiah 61; 1 Peter 2:24; Luke 13; Matthew 8:16-17; Acts 10:38). And has commission us, the church, as His co-laborers and ambassadors to also heal the sick and set captives free in His name.

“Pharisees” AKA those today operating under and influenced by demonic religious spirits hate when people get free, are on satan’s side, pushing his agendas but often blind to that fact. They love their traditions and positions more than God and people and selfishly desire to hold onto those instead of seeing people set free, healed, delivered. Often refer to the gifts of the Holy Spirit as of the devil, preach against healing in Jesus’ name, and even refer to sickness (works of the devil according to Jesus) as blessings (being used to call what is evil, “good,” as the Word warns).

John 5:1-15 – A Man Healed at the Pool of Bethesda

After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.

Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

And that day was the Sabbath. 10 The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”

11 He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’ ”

12 Then they asked him, “Who is the Man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”

15 The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

What do we see in this passage?

  • Jesus sought him out and pursued him to heal him. It’s no different today. There’s an open invitation for healing for all who’ll receive what He ALREADY did, but we must receive it by faith: “By Jesus’ stripes, we were healed,” (1 Peter 2:24).
  • Jesus didn’t rebuke him for wanting to be well or tell him he had to get his life right first and come back when he was perfect. No! He simply healed him because it’s who He is. It’s His name – Healer. It’s His kindness to us that leads us to repentance.
  • Jesus didn’t tell him to wait because he was teaching him a lesson. No! The Word says the reason Jesus became man was to destroy the works of the devil – this includes healing from physical infirmities as ALL sickness is of the devil. He wants the devil and all his works off us. Get out of churches that tell you to stay in agreement with the works of the devil in your body or your loved ones! No sickness is God’s will for you or anyone. They’re insulting the broken and striped body of Jesus Christ and His finished work and purpose for coming into the earth.
  • The only ones who hated seeing people free were the Pharisees. Anyone in the church, including pastors, who teach healing is not for today and not God’s will for all are not operating by the Word and Spirit’s leading but by one similar to the Pharisees. I literally see “Christians’ attack other Christians for saying healing is for today, paid in full for all by Jesus. Who do they sound more like in the passage above? Jesus or the Pharisees. The Word can’t lie.

He took up his bed, so he could throw it away! Jesus gave him a new beginning. He loves new beginnings. That’s why He came to make all things new and to become the Mediator of a new and better covenant, based on new and better promises. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!

Jesus Himself became our Mediator – Job didn’t have the Christ as his Mediator which is why Christians today are not like him and can’t be like him. He wasn’t under this new and amazing covenant that we are in with God the Father through the Son. We are blessed indeed!

The Chosen, S2:E4

Flee from today’s “Pharisees” who make “the Word of God of no effect through their tradition which they have handed down.,” (Mark 7:13).

The Chosen, S2:Ep4

Jesus wants people well, including you.

Today’s “Pharisees” who have hardened their hearts to God and are under the influence of demonic religious spirits “preach” punishment, like some need to atone for our own sins through sickness, the ones Jesus already paid for. That’s works. Not grace.

So we have to earn our way through carrying sickness? No! Jesus carried it for us (Isaiah 53). We either believe Him or call Him a liar!

They preach people remaining in captivity, and the lie that God is using the works of the devil – physical infirmities – to teach people lessons. We don’t see this anywhere in the gospels.

No! Jesus healed them all and all manner of sickness and disease, NEVER referring to sickness as a blessing but ONLY as a work of the devil or oppression of the devil (Luke 13:16; Acts 10:38).

And the only things He did about these sicknesses and works of the devil? He healed and delivered people from them.

So are we called to line up our words with Jesus’ or the made up doctrines of man? The answer is obvious.

“And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you,'” (Luke 10:9).

It’s better to obey God than man.

Healing

Healing in Jesus’ name with a Word: A Look at John 4:46-54

Jesus heals an official’s son. Image source unknown

There are many stumbling blocks to the faith of believers today regarding divine healing in Jesus’ name. But the Word of God is clear: Jesus’ death and resurrection gave US, His children, the authority to heal the sick.

We are not indwelt by a diluted Holy Spirit but the full power of God living inside us to, “heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give,” (Matthew 10:8).

The blood of Jesus Christ doesn’t pick and choose. It’s available to anyone who chooses to appropriate its power by faith. And that blood atoned for sin, the very root of sickness, therefore paid for healing in full for ALL (as well as any and all things that were birthed into the earth because of it).

Destroy the root – sin – then ALL that grows out of it is also destroyed: sin, sickess, demonic afflictions and infirmities, death. Only believe!

The Lord is His goodness not only applied His blood to sin – the root of all sickness, death, and destruction – to ensure we understood that physical healing is IN FACT included in the atonement, He gave His physical body over to be beaten and striped. Why? So we could be assured that the His death and resurrection and the purpose of His shed blood was NOT only for the remission of sins but for physcially healing of ALL manner of sickness and disease.

1 John 3:8 says, “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” Sin and everything that grew out of sin – sickness, etc. – is of the devil. The VERY reason Jesus came in the flesh was to destroy the works of the devil – including sickness.

“When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses,” (Matthew 8:16-17). A cross-reference to the physical healing prophecy, Isaiah 53:4, and confirmation of 1 Peter 2:24.

The atonment includes physical healing. Be not deceived by rejecting His blood and truth for yourself through unbelief.

Let’s read John 4:46-54

“So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”

The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”

Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man BELIEVED the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”

Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.”

One stumbling block to receiving healing for some may be that they believe someone must lay hands on them for them to be healed. Thus, they are putting their faith into the formula of laying of hands to receive healing, but the Word teaches that spiritual authority in Jesus’ name trumps the physical or natural realm.

We too can pray IN BELIEVING FAITH for someone in another city, state, or country in Jesus’ name to be healed, and see them healed. Don’t allow formulaic thinkigk to keep you or a loved one sick: “Oh no, woe is we. Unless we can get to that healing conference, our loved one will never be healed.” If that’s what they are putting their faith in, then it could work out for them that way. But, they don’t have to.

The Word is Spirit and power and life and travels faster than the speed of light – it’s instant – it’s “let there be light” SUDDENLY when spoken in Jesus’ ALL powerful name.

Addressing religious, pharisaical critics whom the devil will get to hyperfocus on exactly ONE verse above in order to kill their faith THEN use them to attack divine healing, attempting to kill the faith of others

“Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe,'” (John 4:48).

I have seen cruel, venomous attacks spewed by other Christians onto their brothers and sisters. These attackers take verses like John 4:48 out of context, falsely accusing believers of being “sign chasers” simply because they take God for His Word regarding healing and miracles being for today.

Jesus already knew what it would take for people to believe in Him. Why would He go about doing COUNTLESS signs and wonders to demonstrate the kingdom of God had come near them of He was anti-signs? He wouldn’t.

Jesus promised us in Mark 16:17, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.” The devil is a liar. God’s people who simply take Him for His Word are not sign chasers. The Holy Spirit causes signs to follow those who BELIEVE.

Those who deny the power of the Holy Spirit and the atoning blood of Jesus Christ to heal, do not believe. AKA unbelief – the healing and miracle blocker as per Jesus. Therefore, signs will not follow them. Because they choose to base faith on personal experience and sight, and not the Word of God, they give place to the devil, allowing satan to use them to attack others who do believe.

Mark 16:20 says, “And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word through the accompanying signs. Amen.” Signs, miracles, healings, and wonders, do what? Confirm the Word of God. No wonder the devil has worked so hard to use even God’s own to attack divine healing.

John 20:30-31 says, “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

Why would signs cause people to believe? Because Jesus said this, not man, Jesus: “And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you,’” (Luke 10:9). Divine healing is proof the Kingdom of God has come near someone as we are carriers of His Kingdom because of the Holy Spirit.

“And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen,” (John 21:25).

Matthew 24:24 says, “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” The devil is an imitator of everything God does – his version a twisted, evil lie of course. But the Lord is not going to allow the enemy to outshine Him. His people are called to make His glory shine in the earth. Come on! Let’s go!

It’s time to take God for His Word, church, and heal the sick in His name. To show the world that His kingdom as come near them through us, His walkig, living, breathing church.

God wants people well and loosed from the captivity of sickness. Not bound with the works of the devil in their bodies. “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give,” (Matthew 10:8).

Healing, Sword Inked Hearts

Healing is God’s will and for ALL (something so simple and powerful the Lord spoke to me)

unknown source

Some of the most profound things the Lord has spoken to me have been simple, pure, beautiful and utterly powerful.

“Surely He has borne our griefs [sicknesses, Hebrew]
And carried our sorrows [pains, Hebrew];
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;

The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed,”
(Isaiah 53:4-5).

We read in Isaiah 54 that Jesus bore every type of affliction FOR us. Nowhere do the atonement verses state that it’s a random, pick and choose healing for a mysterious select group of people. The language of these verses make is clear – “we” and “our”.

But just like salvation which is received by faith, so is healing received by faith. And sadly, many are the doctrines in the church that deny the blood of Jesus Christ’s full power.

These are the simple yet powerful words the Lord spoke to me that should forever settle for any New Covenant child of God healing was paid for in FULL by Jesus for ALL: “Any interpretation of scripture that denies the atonement and what the atoning blood of Jesus Christ paid for is an incorrect interpretation and must be rejected.”

Wow, Lord! Thank You!

The atonement is the litmus test against all other interpretations of scripture regarding healing for New Covenant believers. Childlike faith simple, right?

For example, when a church leader or follower of Jesus prays, If it be God’s,” will regarding healing.” The atonement survey says – WRONG!!! Those words deny the part of the atonement which says, “By His stripes WE are healed; And He has borne our sicknesses and carried our pains.”

See how simple the Lord made what His atonement covers, yet how terribly His children complicate it with their minds and walk by sight and NOT by faith ways?

Another false doctrine example, “Paul’s thorn in the flesh is a sickness the Lord refused to heal him from.” Nope to the nope! This extremely wrong interpretation of scripture clearly denies the atoning blood of Jesus Christ and its already paid in full power to heal ALL. Why would God the Father deny the blood of His own Son and the incredible sacrifice He made for ALL to be healed for Paul? He wouldn’t.

A deep dive study into that pesky thorn in context of ALL of scripture shows us the thorn in the flesh actually had NOTHING to do with sickness but some pretty annoying people being stirred up by a demonic spirit to persecute Paul and repeatedly hinder the gospel which was so beloved to him.

So any interpretation of scripture you may hear out there that denies healing is for today or healing is not for all is absolutely wrong for it denies the blood of Jesus Christ and its power to heal. Healing paid for in full for whosoever will receive it as a gift.

His precious blood which is more than strong enough to stretch forward 2000 years and heal us today because He already did, heal us that is.

Just as it’s God’s will that all be saved. It’s His will that all be healed, but the Word is clear that we “get to” reject His will for ourselves through unbelief – free will. Or that by creating our own doctrines and interpretations of scripture based on what is seen, we get what we believe (which is also unbelief).

For who are we to exalt our opinions and manmade doctrines above the atoning blood of Jesus Christ and its power to heal?

If healing doesn’t manifest with the first prayer, you keep praying until it does because it’s His will. Walk by faith and not by sight and never allow anyone to get you to deny His precious blood for yourself and its power to heal you or a loved one.

It is possible to make, “the Word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down,” (Matthew 7:13). And who wants that? No one, of course. Well accept those Pharisees types.

But we declare: We desire to walk by Your Word and not by sight. Not by the opinions and unbelief of man. Hallelujah!
