“Why did God Allow This?” – Part 3: Now that I know the true source. What I can do.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly,” (John 10:10).

Do you take God for His Word in John 10:10 when faced with the troubles of life? Beloved of God, in order for your prayers to be powerful, effective, and victorious, you must. If not, you’ll be filled with unbelief instead of full of the confident assurance needed to receive the promises of God by faith.

Why? Because if you believe God is the source of the killing, stealing, and destroying you find yourself in, it is difficult to pray believing you are fighting the very will of God for you, a loved one, or this nation.

But if you believe your heavenly Father and take Him for His Word in simple, childlike faith, that:
  • Jesus came so you “may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10),
  • His purpose is to “destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8),

…then your prayers of faith will be powerful, effective, and victorious.

Now that you know the true source. What you can do. You are not powerless but armed with the Word and mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds.
  1. Look to the Word of God for His YES and AMEN promises that apply to your situation and pray prayers of petition in Jesus’ name according to, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him,” (1 John 5:14-5).
  2. Only believe. “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them,” (Mark 11:24).
  3. Pray offensively using spiritual warfare. “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you,” (Matthew 17:20).

Father, bless these dear readers, and help them with any unbelief. Lead them into all truth by Your Holy Spirit that You are only for them. That You want to partner with them as they offer up their prayers and use their blood-bought authority over the works of the devil affecting their lives. But that they must pray, so Your will is done for them, their loved ones, and this nation on earth as it is in heaven in Jesus’ name, amen.

“Why did God Allow This?” – Part 2: In the face of evil, “Am I going to press into God or push Him away?”

“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil,” (1 John 3:8)

For many years, a horrific crime against a little girl in Florida haunted me. My mind bombarded with questions about God. How can He be “in control” yet something so unspeakable happen to an innocent child? Still immature in my walk with the Lord then, I pushed those thoughts away. Hurt and confused. Questioning my ability to trust my heavenly Father.

With God’s help, I found the courage to search out the matter. The ongoing process of learning the Word for myself has been key to turning confusion into confidence in my ability to trust Him despite my own experiences with evil and abuse.

I realized in the face of evil, I could choose: “Am I going to press into God or push Him away?”

I chose to press into the Lord and seek Him for answers. To discover how His will works in conjunction with our free will. Well as much as my human limitations permitted.

Answers not based on the opinions of man. But on what His Word teaches with lots of help from the Holy Spirit.

The Word says:
  • “Seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul,” (Deuteronomy 4:29).
  • “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him,” (James 1:15).

On this journey with God, I discovered I didn’t have to suffer unnecessarily with anguish in my mind. Our good Father already provided His Word and Holy Spirit to provide us with the wisdom and comfort we need.

But, I had to do my part: seek and ask in order to find. “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter,”(Proverbs 25:2).

The lead verse, 1 John 3:8, was one of the foundations the Lord used to teach me. And when He wants to open up the Word to me, He often reminds me to humble myself as a little child as I read it. To have eyes to see it with simple, implicit, unwavering trust. No matter what, walk by faith, not by sight trust.

So what did my little eyes see? My simple, childlike, implicit trust in His Word saw:
  1. All sin and everything resulting from it is of the devil.
  2. Jesus’ purpose in becoming human was to destroy the works of the devil.

Beloved child of God, if you’re questioning your ability to trust God and His love for you, seek Him today. Draw closer to Him. He promises you will find Him.

Lord, help me to respond according to Your Word in the face of evil and negative circumstances. Help me seek You and Your wisdom on these matters that I am not influenced by the opinions of others but You alone in Jesus’ name, amen.

“Why Did God Allow This?” – Part 1: Misuses and Misunderstandings

“You have made people to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under their feet,” (Psalm 8:6).

A hurting mother posted on social media regarding her chronically ill child, “God allowed this to happen to him.” Her words were angry and accusatory towards God. My heart truly went out to her, and I simply commented that I’d pray for her.

In the past, I would have agreed with this dear mama’s perspective regarding the character of God, but I was at a different place in my walk with Him then.

God had me unlearning the many unscriptural teachings I’d picked up from others over the years. He was teaching me to question everything I was taught by searching out the scriptures for myself to test whether they were true (Acts 17:11).

There was a study done regarding toddlers with celiac disease, a serious autoimmune disease where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine.

Upon diagnosis, a misled, Christian mama, like the one above, may think, “God allowed this horrible celiac disease to happen to my child,” in a way that blames Him.

Wrong, religious thoughts like, “God must be causing us to suffer to teach us a lesson,” may further fuel her accusations towards her heavenly Father.

Later, further testing reveals her child has high blood levels of pesticides, fire retardants, and the chemicals found in non-stick cookware. By not knowing the Word of God for herself, this dear mother was unknowingly implicating God for the effects of sin and free will in the earth.

The lead verse above, Psalm 8:6, points us to God’s truth: He put US in charge of ALL He created.

God didn’t cause or “allow” those toddlers to get celiac disease. Nor was it His will or a “lesson” from Him to teach the child and his parents something using a damaged intestine.

No, God sent His Son, Jesus, to be beaten beyond recognition, die for us, and bear the effects of sin and death on His body.

The answer is simple. God won’t violate His Word or our free will:

  • “God put people in charge of all the works of His hands,” (Psalm 8:6).
  • “They rejected the will of God for themselves,” (Luke 7:30).

His Word always reveals His truth. The only truth that matters for believers. Sin and the free will choices of man who are “managing” the earth caused those toddlers to be sick. Not God.

For example, many of our grains, fruits, and vegetables are genetically modified (GMOs) so they can withstand an insane amount of pesticides. This process violates God’s creation and order. He never instructed us to poison our own food. The sins of greed and perverting creation are at the root.

The next time we hear someone say, “Why did God allow this to happen?” we must ask ourselves is it being used in a way that implicates God in sin, the results of man’s free will, or that forgets that He made us “managers” of all the earth until Jesus fully reclaims it (Revelations 21).

In this devotional series, I will also share how inviting God into our situations through prayer and taking Him for His promises by faith is the power we have in Jesus’ name to overcome the effects of a fallen world and to destroy the works of the devil in our lives. Stay tuned.
