After many years, I heard the song Heartlight, by Neil Diamond the other day. When the above lyrics filled my earbuds, tears welled up in my eyes. The Lord tugging on my heart with these verses:
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden...Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,” (Matthew 5:14; 16).
I was moved because of their beauty and truth. And that this is the calling of every child of God. I was also moved because of how we often fall short of it. There’s no condemnation in Jesus Christ, of course, but when we love Him, we also count it a joy to obey Him.
Father, I want to do better. Bring these words to my remembrance and the remembrance of Your people daily for our hearts desire to glorify You and Your Name in Jesus’ name, amen.
